Halloween Special edition · 10 Oct — 3 Nov Trick or treat

The night is over: the website is back to its usual look. See you next Halloween.

Special seasonal edition

Tonight,
SifG22 is
dressing up.

From 10 October to 3 November, the site fills up with cobwebs, ghosts and pumpkins. But this year is different: exactly a hundred years ago, on the Samhain night of 1926, a girl called Elvira disappeared in the house on the hill. And tonight someone has lit the candles again.

See the costumes The map of the night

There are seven pumpkins hidden on this page. And that's just the beginning: five chapters, six lost souls and a loot. Allow an hour, preferably in the dark.

One night. Seven pumpkins. No real scares. If you can read this, the invisible ink is all yours. TREAT / TRICK / SCARE

Lost souls

They escaped tonight and roam other pages of the site. They glow faintly: look carefully. When you find one, tap it to set it free.

  1. One stayed behind developing photos nobody came to collect.
  2. Another watches the sky, hour by hour, waiting for it to clear.
  3. One wanted to know who we are and what drives us.
  4. Another got stuck halfway through a download, looking at what was inside.
  5. One got lost exploring, wondering what it could do next.
  6. And the last one is truly lost: look for it where there's nothing.

Pumpkins

  1. The first one signs the name of the night.
  2. Orange on orange, at the foot of the poster.
  3. Someone sneaked onto the end of the list of treats, tricks and scares.
  4. It wanted to dress up too, and joined the back of the parade.
  5. Knock, yes. But notice where you'd put your hand to open it.
  6. It sleeps inside an answer that talks about keeping things.
  7. The last one signs the ending, by its own light.

Secrets

  • The moon doesn't answer the first time. Or the second.
  • Ghosts have a favourite word. Type it… or keep insisting on its first letter.
  • At the foot of the page, someone keeps light for when everything goes dark.
  • A code as old as the arcades: up, up, down, down… you know the rest. A finger works too.
  • Someone hangs by a thread above the poster. Scare the one who scares.
  • The door has a round eye. Who could live on the other side?
  • Someone peeks over an edge when you think you're not looking.
  • If you stay very still in front of the poster, someone will get sleepy.
  • There's a sentence you can't see. Not with your eyes, not in the dark.
  • The pumpkin up top gets dizzy if you don't leave it alone.
  • Some things only happen when the clock strikes twelve.
  • The door keeps five different scares. Collect them all.
  • Six different sweets fit in the bag. One is gold, and almost nobody sees it.

Before midnight

Spooky
questions.

How long do the decorations last?

Until 3 November, inclusive. After that, the website goes back to its usual look on its own.

Can I turn the decorations off?

Yes. Tap the pumpkin in the top bar, on the right, or the button at the end of this page. We'll remember your choice on this device; tap it again to turn them back on.

Are the pumpkins I find saved?

Yes, in your browser. You can close the page and keep looking later. We don't send anything to any server.

Is anything else hidden?

Much more. Check the map of the night: five chapters telling Elvira's story (a book of riddles, a haunted house, a graveyard, a ouija and a door) and six souls lost on other pages of the site.

What do I get if I find everything?

Collectible cards, a wallpaper that grows with what you find, a ghost that keeps you company around the site and a golden surprise. It's all in the loot.

Happy Halloween

Don't let midnight
catch you.
